On Saturday6th May from 3 pm onwards, neighbors get to know each other: www.Nebenan.de is an Internet platform where neighbors can network online. The idea of the real world "nebenan.de-next-door coffee-tea-meeting" was born in the internet - we are glad that the meetings take place in the Ulme35 and look forward to get to know new neighbors.
At the same time, there is an art workshop for children aged 8 and adults in the open studio and former patient rooms are transformed into play and exercise rooms.
At our Friday Film club on 12th May we will be showing “Taxi Teheran”, a docu-drama by the Iranian director Jafar Panahi which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2015. From 2010 onwards, Panahi was banned from working as a film director in his home country. He cleverly got round that ban by working as a taxi driver and mounting a camera on the dashboard of his taxi. He recorded conversations with passengers of all generations, social classes and occupations – from criminals to a human rights lawyer. In the anonymous space and short time in the taxi his protagonists poured out their hearts, speaking of their rage, their worries and their hopes. A moment of freedom.
After the film there will be a discussion with the psychiatrist, psychotherapist and author Mazda Adli (“Stress in the City”) and with Mahdis Amiri who used to work as a scientist and as a journalist in Iran. She has lived in Germany since 2011 and works for BBC Persian and Radio Farda. She is co-ordinator for the farsi/dari programme Amal,Berlin!
On Saturday 13th May Third World, the band from Damascus, is back with us again! Muder Obaid Dabbous (guitar), Omar Obaid Dabbous (oud) and Hakam Wahbi (drums) thrilled visitors with their oriental/occidental music at our open day “Celebration of future possibilities” last September. The audience proved that it is possible to dance in the auditorium. If you missed the band last time, now’s your chance.
This is just a selection, we also start with regular counseling sessions, first on Wednesdays for young people- please check out our event-page.
And on a regular basis, our "Salon" is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 3 pm to drink coffee, talk, play chess or simply to meet new people.
